The 5 Pillars of Health I Use in My Life & Practice
Integrating Holistic Health, Faith, and Nursing Leadership
As a nurse entrepreneur, Christian health coach, and wellness advocate, I’ve discovered that true health isn’t just about the absence of illness—it’s about living in alignment. Through my work with the Nomadic Nurse Network, I teach and practice a holistic health approach rooted in five foundational pillars.
These pillars combine both Western medicine and mind-body-spirit wellness, supporting not only physical healing but also mental, spiritual, and professional restoration.
Let’s dive into the 5 pillars of health I live by—both personally and professionally.
1. Physical Health: Stewarding the Body as a Temple
Physical health is about whole-body wellness—not perfection. In my life and in my nurse coaching practice, I focus on:
Intentional movement (not punishment)
Whole-food nutrition that nourishes, not just fills
Hydration, sleep, and regular rest
Preventive care (annual checkups, lab work, and wellness screenings)
This is the first pillar of health because everything else rests on the condition of our bodies. As I tell the nurses and clients I mentor: “Prevention is powerful, and rest is a strategy, not a setback.”
2. Mental & Emotional Health: Building Resilience from Within
This pillar addresses the often-overlooked areas of emotional intelligence, mental fitness, and stress management—particularly crucial in preventing burnout in nursing.
I journal daily to process emotions and clarify my thoughts
I create boundaries to protect my peace
I normalize therapy, coaching, and rest as tools for growth
Whether it’s emotional health tools for nurses or burnout prevention strategies, this area has been a game-changer for my own healing and leadership.
3. Spiritual Health: The Foundation of Everything I Do
My spiritual health is the pillar that sustains all others. As a Christian health coach, I begin each day in prayer and seek God’s direction in both business and caregiving.
My faith guides my patient care, my business decisions, and my leadership style
I believe in integrating faith and healthcare for true transformation
Spiritual wellness allows me to show up fully and serve without striving
This is not just about belief—it’s about building rhythms of grace and purpose into my daily life.
4. Professional Health: Serving with Purpose, Not Just Hustle
Your career is part of your health—especially for nurses, entrepreneurs, and healthcare leaders.
I invest in ongoing learning, like holistic nursing certifications
I teach nurse entrepreneurs how to avoid hustle culture burnout
I mentor professionals to lead with purpose and legacy, not just profit
As a nurse and business owner, I believe in the power of aligned, ethical, and sustainable work.
5. Relational Health: Building Community & Accountability
No one thrives in isolation. I nurture relational health by choosing community over chaos.
I maintain authentic relationships rooted in trust and accountability
I prioritize safe spaces—whether that’s with family, faith circles, or peers
I coach others to recognize toxic patterns and foster meaningful connections
In both personal life and professional coaching, I see the profound health impact of community care over self-care alone.
Final Thoughts: Designing a Life of Alignment
These five pillars—physical, mental/emotional, spiritual, professional, and relational—are not separate categories. They are interconnected dimensions of wellness that shape how we live, lead, and heal.
